Today's Top Winners in Mid-Cap Tech
The technology sector - which has been beaten up in recent weeks - lead stocks higher on Wednesday. Strength has been concentrated in networking and cloud computing names along with some semiconductor stocks. The catalyst for networking and cloud computing appears to be bullish preliminary earnings results from VMWare (NYSE: VMW) and EMC (NYSE: EMC), which came out after yesterday's closing bell.
The catalyst for semiconductor names has been Intel's (NASDAQ: INTC) results, which also came out after the closing bell. The following is a list of 18 mid-cap technology stocks that are up at least 5% on Thursday. All of these companies have market-caps between $2 billion and $10 billion.
Amphenol (NYSE: APH) - This is one of the biggest gainers on the session. The stock has risen in the wake of the company's second-quarter results. Shares were up more than 14% in afternoon trading.
F5 Networks (NASDAQ: FFIV) - This stock is surging on strength in cloud computing. FFIV was up around 7% late in the trading day.
Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE: FSL) - Climbing on the back of Intel results, shares of Freescale were up around 5% late on Wednesday.
Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT) - Shares had been climbing throughout the session and were trading up almost 10% in the last hour of trading. Strength may be attributable to bullish sentiment in networking names.
Jabil Circuit (NYSE: JBL) - This stock added around 6% on Wednesday.
Juniper Networks (NASDAQ: JNPR) - This networking name was trading up almost 7% and continued to climb throughout the day.
KLA-Tencor (NASDAQ: KLAC) - Shares soared throughout the day. KLAC added around 5.50% on Wednesday.
Level 3 Communications (NASDAQ: LVLT) - This stock was trading up 6% late on Wednesday. Shares may be benefitting from a rapid whipsaw in sentiment surrounding networking related stocks and technology in general.
Mellanox Technologies (NASDAQ: MLNX) - Shares jumped almost 8% on Wednesday, and closed near session highs.
Molex (NASDAQ: MOLX) - Molex shares have climbed more than 5%. The company manufactures and sells electronic components.
NetSuite (NASDAQ: N) - This stock is running with other cloud computing names. Shares traded up more than 6%.
Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) - The beaten down chip-maker added more than 5% on Wednesday.
NXP Semiconductor (NASDAQ: NXPI) - Another semiconductor name that is benefiting from Intel's results. Shares were up almost 9%.
ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ONNN) - This stock had gained more than 6% as the entire chip space soars.
Procera Networks (NASDAQ: PKT) - Another networking name riding the wave of momentum in the space. PKT had added more than 7% on Wednesday.
Riverbed Technology (NASDAQ: RVBD) - This beaten down networking name added 11% on the session.
STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM) - Shares have added almost 6% going into the closing bell. This company operates in the global semiconductor space.
Tibco Software (NASDAQ: TIBX) - Tibco is exposed to the cloud, and TIBX shares soared almost 8% on Wednesday.
