The Super Mario Trade (NTDOY, QCOM, TXN, STM)

Instead of beating Bowser, maybe Super Mario can help you beat the S&P. AllThingsD took a look at the latest offering from Nintendo NTODY, the 3DS, after IHS iSuppli ripped into the game player, and took a look at the parts. iSuppli showed that the costs of all the components in the 3DS costs $103.25, and the device is selling for $249. In the AllThingsD article, Andrew Rassweiler, an iSuppli analyst said it's unclear yet if the Japanese earthquake will have any impact on sales or parts supplies. “Many of these component should have a greater risk exposure to supply chain problems, though we don't know about any specific disruptions at this point,” he said. “It looks like a conventional LCD from the outside, but when you open the display you see that on one side of the glass is essentially the conventional color element, and on the other side of the glass is a monochrome element,” Rassweiler told AllThingsD. “It's a clever bit of display engineering.” Names that are in the 3DS are STMicro STM, which is providing an accelerometer, an audio chip from Texas Instruments TXN, a Wi-Fi chip from Atheros QCOM, and a gyroscope from Invensense. The near $150 per unit profit that Nintendo is making is fairly strong, and this should give investors a second chance to look at potentially entering the name. Perhaps going long Nintendo and these parts suppliers will give you a 1 Up in your portfolio, and let you reach the next level.
