Roberto Angulo, CEO of San Francisco-based job seeker site AfterCollege.com, spoke to Benzinga exclusively today, to explain what sets his company apart from the hundreds of other job sites on the web. Angulo told us that AfterCollege is focused on entry-level job seekers, including college students and recent grads ranging from sophomores to PhDs and alumni up to five years out of school. “This is the audience we serve best and this is one of our main differentiators,” he said. “There are dozens of college sites out there though, and within this crowd, we are unique in that we power not just one web site, AfterCollege.com, but also power career networks for over 16,000 academic programs and student organizations at 2,300 universities nationwide. This allows us to do two things: First, it allows us to provide users with relevant content targeted for their school and discipline, and secondly, it allows employers on AfterCollege to better target opportunities to the right candidates.” AfterCollege is, according to Angulo, more than a job search site. “We are a professional network focused on entry-level candidates, with jobs being a main component. We recently launched public profiles and most of our users are opting to create public profiles to start building an online professional brand for themselves.” Angulo also said that the company is starting to get users from outside of the USA. “Our headquarters is in downtown San Francisco, but like most web sites, we are nationwide,” he said. “We work with universities and employers nationwide. Our users are also from all over the country and we are starting to get more users from Europe and China.” The CEO told us that AfterCollege is a profitable private corporation that they are feeling no pressure to go public at present. The company is evolving into more of a professional network though. “We currently get about 3,000,000 students and recent grads using our service annually, either by going directly to AfterCollege.com or through a career network at their college or university,” said Angulo. “Our goal is to get as many of these users who are currently getting jobs and internships from us to start creating public profiles. Our profiles are professional in nature, they were created with college grads and entry-level job seekers in mind, and they give users the ability to get contacted by employers interested specifically in college students and entry-level users.” “At the same time,” says Angulo, “we currently work with over 16,000 academic departments and groups at universities. We just started working with university career centers on a campus-wide level, offering them free software that lets their students network with alumni. This allows us to get the word out to more students about AfterCollege so they can take advantage of our service to find the best full-time job, part-time job or internship, or simply to start engaging with employers for whom they would like to work for one day.”
