Cybereason Launches SecureBoston, a program to help organizations and businesses fight ransomware attacks. The Anti-Defamation League of New England is joining the program because of an increase in online attacks and threats to its organization.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 27, 2017

Cybereason, developers of the most effective Total Endpoint Protection Platform including EDR & NGAV, today launched SecureBoston, a program designed to help companies, non-profit organizations, state and local governments, law enforcement agencies and mom-and-pop shops fight invasive ransomware attacks. In addition, Cybereason named The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) of New England and Ed Davis, LLC, a security consulting firm based in Boston, as SecureBoston members. Davis is the former Boston Police Commissioner.

The ransomware attack statistics are staggering. The Department of Justice recently reported that there are more than 4,000 ransomware attacks each day against businesses and consumers. The FBI estimates that more than $1 billion was paid in ransoms in 2016. Cybereason believes the attacks might be double what is being reported and the dollar value of paid ransoms are likely a lot higher and in the range of $3-$5 billion.

"The ADL of New England is proud to be a SecureBoston member. RansomFree is giving our organization a chance to fight back against ransomware, today's biggest and most profitable online scam. Cyber-security is an increasingly important weapon in fighting security threats faced by nonprofit organizations, who often times lack the resources to combat these threats head on. Cybereason is giving us full protection against ransomware attacks," said Robert Trestan, Regional Director, The Anti-Defamation League of New England.

Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system or computer files until a sum of money is paid. Most ransomware variants encrypt the files on the affected computer, making them inaccessible, and demand a ransom payment to restore access.

Any business with an online presence will eventually face a ransomware attack if they haven't already. Cyber criminals lock and encrypt files, then threaten to destroy them unless a ransom is paid through the untraceable electronic payment form known as Bitcoin. In 2016, some industry experts estimate that there were nearly 1 billion ransomware attacks (against companies and consumers) and more than $3 billion paid in ransoms.

"Ransomware is the biggest cyber threat facing businesses today. The attacks are causing significant financial and productivity losses, and led us to develop our free product RansomFree. Today, The Anti-Defamation League of New England joins with hundreds of other businesses and organizations already using RansomFree. We are thrilled to continue making ransomware attacks unprofitable for cyber criminals," said Lior Div, CEO and co-founder, Cybereason.

"Cybereason is the fastest growing cybersecurity company in Boston and they bring a unique approach to helping organizations stop today's sophisticated cyber threats. My company is using RansomFree and we are a proud member of SecureBoston and looking forward to helping other organizations join us in stamping out ransomware," said Ed Davis, former Boston Police Commissioner, CEO of Ed Davis LLC, (a security consulting firm) and Cybereason Advisory Board Member.
