U-Haul Sustainability Initiatives Lead to New Bloomington Store

BLOOMINGTON, Ill., June 23, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- U-Haul is incorporating its adaptive reuse practices to convert a former home and leisure store at 1710 R.T. Dunn Drive into a full-service moving and storage facility in Bloomington.

U-Haul Moving & Storage of South Veterans began offering temporary services in January at a location previously occupied by The Great Escape. The 5.36-acre property currently has truck and trailer rentals, towing equipment and professional hitch installation, moving supplies, boxes, U-Box portable moving and self-storage containers and more.

The acquisition of the 55,530-square-foot property was driven by U-Haul Company's Corporate Sustainability initiatives: U-Haul supports infill development to help local communities lower their carbon footprint. Our adaptive reuse of existing buildings reduces the amount of energy and resources required for new-construction materials and helps cities reduce their unwanted inventory of unused buildings.

Come September, customers will have access to 400 indoor climate-controlled self-storage units, marking the completion of phase one of storage construction. Once the last phase of construction is finished (estimated January 2017), there will be 821 self-storage units and 30 covered storage spaces for RVs, boats and vehicles.
