Santa Fe's Inn and Spa at Loretto, A Destination Hotel, In Collaboration with the Institute of American Indian Art (IAIA) Exhibits Mural Painted by Student Artists

Work has begun at Inn and Spa at Loretto on a mural designed by emerging IAIA students Del Curfman, George Alexander, and Anthony Gchachu through Loretto's partnership "Art and Soul of Santa Fe" program

Santa Fe's award-winning Inn and Spa at Loretto, A Destination Hotel, is proud to announce its continued collaborative efforts with the Institute of American Indian Art (IAIA) through an upcoming mural designed and created by emerging students. This partnership began in 2014 and has grown throughout the years to foster a deeper connection to the arts through an impressive art collection.

George Alexander, a Muscogee Creek artist is a recent graduate of IAIA and received his BFA in the Fall of 2015. "My part of the mural consists of geometric shapes that create a modern southwest design that I have incorporated the landscape" he says. "This is important to capture because I feel that the landscape will remind us of how remarkable Santa Fe is."

Anthony Gchachu is a freshman at IAIA and is from Zuni, New Mexico. "I am painting 3 Zuni social dancers on the mural: the eagle, deer, and buffalo. The dancers alone have very great meanings of nature and earth life" says Gchachu. "The figures dance to bring happiness from the past to the future. Therefore, my part of the mural represents happiness and a healthy lifestyle for the years to come."

"Art is in our humanity. It demonstrates our most fragile and bold moments" says Del Curfman of the Crow Nation of Montana who is currently enrolled at IAIA and is pursuing his BFA in Studio Arts. "I wish to inspire and connect to the humanity that is art to contribute to the Native contemporary art."

Along with the mural, the Loretto will also be hosting another pop up gallery event this Friday, April 15th from 5:30pm to 8pm and Saturday, April 16th from 10am to 2pm. Artists featured include: Rylin Becenti, Roxanne White, Terren Kipp, Justus Benally, Dakota Yazzie, Rebecca Gough, Frank Andrews III, DeVaughn Denaetchee, Bodera Joe, Ann Nelson Osceola, Elizabeth Elliot, and Krista Vanderblomen.
