First time in school history MHS will compete at this level

HERSHEY, Pa. (PRWEB) March 11, 2016

Milton Hershey School's® Mock Trial Team has advanced to the Regional Championship in the Statewide Mock Trial Competition, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association Young Lawyers Division. It will be the first time a Milton Hershey School Mock Trial Team will compete at this level of the competition.

The team defeated Spring Grove School District in the Regional Semifinals on March 9. During the semifinals, senior Leila Asemani and junior Josi Daugherty were named best advocate and best witness, respectively, for the second consecutive trial.

"We had a strong performance on Wednesday and are excited to represent Milton Hershey School in the Regional Championship," said Asemani. "Our school values of integrity, positive spirit, commitment to mission, and mutual respect play a big part in how we prepare and compete in our trials."

The Milton Hershey School Defendant Team will square off against York Catholic's Plaintiff Team on Monday, March 14, at 6 p.m. at the Old Cumberland County Courthouse in Carlisle.

More than 350 teams from across the state compete in the mock trial competition. Each mock trial has a strong educational emphasis and provides a forum for students to learn about the law, the legal system and court procedures, as well as improve their basic skills such as listening, reasoning and the ability to think on their feet.

The six-member student teams argue both sides of a case in a courtroom before a judge. Students take on the roles of attorneys, witnesses, plaintiffs and defendants, with lawyers and community leaders serving as jurors. These juries decide the winner in each trial based on the presentation of the case and the team's ability to follow court rules.

Members of the Mock Trial Team participate in the Law, Public Safety & Security pathway of the award-winning MHS Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The CTE program pushes students to explore career options and then accelerates their growth by giving them tailor-made instruction with the ability to work in their chosen career path. Students are able to choose from 11 different career pathways to better prepare them for future success.
