SilverTribe.com is proud to reveal newly arrived jewelry steeped in the rich traditions and heritage of the Zuni tribe.

The Zuni people have endured centuries of change from their beginnings as a farming community. This skill of toiling with their hands has been passed on and translated into silversmithing some of the most unique Native American jewelry. SilverTribe.com reveals a recently acquired collection of Zuni jewelry that showcases their techniques and history.

Although the Zuni were not introduced to silversmithing until the 1870's by the Navajo, they have taken this art form and made it their own. Taking cues from their relationship with Mother Nature, many of their designs feature a sun or sunface, as well as delicate inlay work detailing birds and flora. Their farming roots also show up in their designs with corn textured jewelry, a sign of harvest and abundance.

One of the famous Zuni artisans, Effie Calavaza, uses the snake shape as her trademark design. SilverTribe.com carries a stunning collection of Calavaza's designs, ranging from earrings to pendants. "Although Effie may be a recognizable name among collectors, all the artisans who handcraft our jewelry stay true to the Zuni elements that make their jewelry so rich and beautiful," comments Chris Anderson, spokesperson for SilverTribe.

Using mixed stones such as turquoise, coral, jet, mother of pearl, and onyx, the Zuni designs use the contrasting color of these stones against each to create vivid and striking patterns. Although the inlay designs set by the Zuni can easily tell a story of rich heritage and fine craftsmanship, their needlepoint designs also speak highly of the care and craft that go into Zuni jewelry.

"We are proud of the Zuni pieces we've added to our collection," adds Anderson. "We know that avid collectors will enjoy the detailed and intricate work that has gone into each handcrafted piece. From their first piece of Zuni jewelry to their 50th, our customers consistently turn to us for authentic silver jewelry made by real Zuni artisans."
