Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 23, 2015

The American Security Council Foundation (ASCF) continues to educate the public about the critical security issues and the role of everyday citizens in protecting freedom and democracy. Their ongoing campaign: Step Up America: Call to Good Citizenship provides students, families, and communities with knowledge and tools to guard against cyber and other security threats, as well as a larger view of all the groups within our society who are dedicated to protecting our security and freedom function. They are making these tools available at no charge to schools and organizations.

ASCF views security as a fundamental right and responsibility of US citizenship. The goal of the campaign is to provide schools, families, and communities with the confidence that, should they become aware of a threat to their personal or community's security, they will know how to respond quickly and effectively.

The Campaign will deploy an easy to download toolkit to increase conversation and education, and address how individuals can understand, relate to and, if necessary, take action against the threats impacting national and homeland security. These materials are free and can be used facilitate meetings and workshops or used in classes and curriculum development. ASCF offers support in all these areas.

"With the rise of threats from homegrown terrorists which include bombings, chemical or biological attacks on our homeland, and the impending threat of a cyber attack that can take down our most critical infrastructures, the time is now when every single American can and must play a personal role in homeland and personal security," stated Brig. General Donald B. Smith(Ret.) ASCF Chairman of the Board

The toolkit contains critical information that will teach individuals and communities to be on the alert so that they can identify suspicious activity and work in partnership with law enforcement and first responders to prevent an attack from ever taking place.

Public awareness and engagement helps strengthen the relationship between law enforcement, first responders, veterans, military and the communities they serve.

"We are committed to highlighting and elevating the relationship and sacred trust that can and does exist between law enforcement and communities everywhere," said Congressman and former Attorney General of Florida Bill McCollum.

The Toolkits will be distributed to local communities throughout the nation via partnerships with local Sheriff's offices and other nonprofit organizations that will distribute the material to schools, communities, and other institutions. The Toolkit can also be downloaded from the ascfusa.org website here.
