Technology improvements and bottom-line benefits of remote work are supporting a growing trend of fully distributed companies.

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) March 31, 2015

Telecommuting continues to gain traction in workplaces around the country and the world, with the majority of companies integrating remote work options into their more traditional on-site work environments. However, there is a small but exciting trend of companies that embrace remote work as a fundamental part of their business model. These organizations allow all (or almost all of) their staffs to telecommute 100 percent of the time, and FlexJobs has identified 76 virtual companies from a myriad of different industries including accounting, marketing, non-profit, news/journalism, education, sports, and others.

For the second year in a row, FlexJobs, which specializes in telecommuting and flexible job listings, and is a virtual company itself, analyzed hundreds of companies to find those that openly discuss their dedication to having a distributed workforce and the benefits it provides to the company's strategy and culture.

"GitHub prides itself on having a different approach to collaboration and work," said Kelli Dragovich, VP of Human Resources at GitHub. "A distributed workforce allows our employees to better balance the demands of their lives where they are the most comfortable. In turn, it helps us to be a global organization with super talented and creative people, where we can better, and more quickly meet the needs of our users," Dragovich concluded.

The diversity of companies that operate remotely demonstrates that virtual staffing is possible regardless of size or industry. For example, among the companies included on the list: Ushahidi provides real-time global crisis information gathering; UltraViolet is an organization dedicated to women's rights; Summit CPA Group provides virtual accounting services; The Cheat Sheet is among the largest media companies in the U.S.; TeamSnap the number one resource for sports team management; and GitHub is the world's largest code host.

"FlexJobs itself is a 100% virtual company, with our team distributed across all time zones in the U.S., and I am honored to say FlexJobs has the healthiest, most passionate, and most productive company culture of any organization in which I've worked," said Sara Sutton Fell, founder and CEO of FlexJobs. "Not only can it be done, but it can be done extremely well! However, I will just as quickly say that remote work is not a ‘one size fits all' or an ‘all or nothing' proposition. Most companies would experience direct benefits--such as better recruiting, retention and increased productivity--by allowing some of their employees to work remotely even just part of the time."

A wide variety of professional roles can be performed remotely. A sample of positions these virtual companies are currently hiring include Creative Director, UI Developer, Visual Design Engineer, Tax Accountant , Marketing Manager, Tutor and more. Telecommuting job opportunities in general extend from entry-level to c-level executive, can be part-time or full-time, and are available across most every career field.

Additional facts supporting the growing popularity of telecommuting and its sustainability as a legitimate workplace model:

Telecommuting has increased 80% since 2005

Half of American employees hold a job that's compatible with telework
