The 5th Annual PINK Celebrates International Women's Month

The Pink Event® celebrates and honors women and intertwines with International Women's Month.

This annual event, since 2011, "has showcased and supported women-owned businesses and women-focused charities. We have designed this event to be the ultimate women's day out by highlighting feminine topics via expert and motivational speakers, providing great shopping and other fun additions, and creating a community atmosphere that fosters sharing and networking. The founder and organizer, Tamika Josephs Smith, has emphasized "giving back" throughout the event's run. This year's women-focused charity is "For 3 Sisters"- this year's main charity. The goal to raise "awareness and improving the quality of life of men and women during and after a breast cancer diagnosis." This charity, founded by Montgomery County Maryland Fire and Rescue Service, Firefighter Marshall Moneymaker, has been featured by Susan G Komen "Race for the Cure", The Washington Post, CCN Health, NBC (Washington, DC), Good Morning America, ABC 7 News, and many other media outlets. "For 3 Sisters" offers a variety of programs and services to those dealing with breast cancer, which makes this group so special.

As Tamika Josephs-Smith mentioned in her recent FOX 45 interview, The Pink Event® once again honors all the women, the ultimate women, and it was scheduled purposely to intertwine with International Woman's Day. It also honors all those who are diagnosed annually, including so many families. Some of the more well-known survivors include Cheryl Crow, Susan B Komen, Melissa Etheridge, Bershan Shaw, and even Angelina Jolie, who was proactive given her family history and recently underwent a double mastectomy, which opened up an important avenue to discuss prevention and treatment.

The Pink Event® has a dedicated community that keeps coming back, including vendors, survivors, as well as sponsors and speakers. This year, Natalie Forest, PhD. attended The Pink Event® for the second time in a row. Dr. Natalie was a speaker as in 2014, and this year she came as a café sponsor, one of the new additions to The Pink Event® highlighting the intention for networking and community building.
