After great success with the EPSS program, which gives residents with employment barriers opportunities to work and grow, JET Uniform & Supply announces their continuation of the partnership today.

Red Deer, Alberta (PRWEB) March 27, 2015

In her mid-forties and with a lifelong speech impediment that had, until then, prevented her from working, Monica K. arrived at JET Uniform & Supply for her first day in the mending department quiet, defensive and scared. The owners and staff at JET, which had partnered with Employment Placement & Support Services (EPSS) to offer jobs to challenged residents like Monica, were patient.

"Granted, it does take patience and a willingness to begin with the end in mind," says Stephen Milaney, co-owner of the Red Deer firm that rents, washes, mends and embroiders uniforms and overalls, among other janitorial services. "But over time she became an outstanding employee."

Monica grew self-assured, so much so that she could answer the phone and talk to customers. Barrier after barrier, Monica broke it.

"What you're seeing is this person be able to earn money and contribute to her household, but also gain all this confidence. She was almost like a new person," says Milaney.

Since JET began its partnership with EPSS three years ago, the uniforms and supply company has hired three of their clients, each one with a different background and challenge. Lily, a current team member sent from EPSS six months ago, has a spinal injury and can't sit or stand for long. For four hours a day, she joins a team of seamstresses in JET's mending and embroidery section, patching overalls and uniforms in the Red Deer shop.

"We're fortunate to have positions where we can offer them employment, says Milaney. "As an employer, it's so inspiring to see these people grow and contribute and develop such a strong sense of self-worth."

JET office manager Dolly Berg has been facilitating the partnership with EPSS, calling when they have a position available or responding when EPSS thinks they have someone that would be a good fit for JET. Berg says she's grateful to be a part of a team that's doing good things for the community.

"I think it speaks volumes about our ownership group that they really care about our current employees and the people in our community," says Berg. "To me, anybody giving back in this capacity needs to be recognized."

The JET teams look forward to continuing the EPSS program after seeing its success both for the company and the participants.
