LISBON, PORTUGAL--(Marketwired - Nov. 6, 2014) - CGI GIBGIB is pleased to announce the signing of a new application management contract with EDP until 2017. The contract covers the management of distribution and energy management systems and processes and is valued at approximately 14 million euros.

"'In the last year, EDP has developed a new model of 'application sourcing,' and this agreement renews our relationship with CGI as a trusted partner in this area," said Vergilio Rocha, EDP's director of information systems.

"We are very proud to continue working as EDP's partner in developing, maintaining and evolving its mission-critical information systems," said Paulo Magro da Luz, vice-president of energy and utilities sector for CGI in Portugal. "This new agreement renews our position as EDP's strategic partner in the applications area."

The agreement will generate significant cost savings for EDP by aligning its application service provision model with new technology and service trends. CGI will deliver services through its Iberian Global Delivery Center, which has hubs in Lisbon and Malaga. CGI's broader network of global delivery centers will also be accessed, as necessary.

Application services will be provided in key distribution and energy management areas, including network management, asset management, georeferencing and monitoring, and smart network management. The systems involved, which CGI has managed over the last decade, are critical components of EDP's business architecture and are supported by global technology solutions provided by companies such as SAP and General Electric, as well as CGI.
