In acknowledgement of National Pet Wellness Month, leading holistic veterinary center, Holistic Veterinary Care and Rehabilitation Center experts are informing pet owners about Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

Oakland, California (PRWEB) October 24, 2014

In recognition of National Pet Wellness Month, the experts at Holistic Veterinary Care and Rehabilitation Center introduces Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT). HBOT is a new technology that helps animals and with conditions as varied as head and spinal-cord trauma, intervertebral disc disease, wounds and burns, infections, inflammatory conditions among other ailments.

“The general theory behind HBOT is that it promotes healing by raising oxygen levels in the blood, allowing it to diffuse into tissues at distances three to four times further than usual,” says Dr. Gary Richter, MS, DVM, medical director of Holistic Veterinary Care.

What To Expect During a Pet's Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Treatment

Typically, HBOT treatments last approximately one hour and are given one-to-two times daily. The total number of treatments required depends upon the condition and how the patient responds. There are essentially no side effects although Dr. Richter advises it's important to select HBOT candidates appropriately. Dogs or cats with some types of respiratory problems or predisposed to specific types of seizures need to be evaluated before undergoing therapy.

“By increasing the amount of oxygen delivered to tissues, we are stimulating these patients' own healing abilities—immune systems, stem cells—to begin the healing process where other types of conventional medicine might not be able to achieve that goal,” said Dr. Richter.

Typical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Results Include:

  •     Reduction in swelling
  •     Stimulation of new blood vessel formation into the healing/swollen tissue
  •     Reduction in pressure caused by head or spinal cord injuries
  •     Improved would healing
