OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Oct. 31, 2014) - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, issued the following statement in reaction to the sentence rendered by the Court of Queen's Bench in New Brunswick.

"Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families of RCMP Constables Douglas Larche, Dave Ross, and Fabrice Gevaudan - heroes whose lives were taken in cold blood.

Our Government passed measures to allow for consecutive periods of parole ineligibility in cases of multiple murder.

We applaud the sentence handed down today by Mr. Justice Smith of life without possibility of parole for 75 years."
