Erico Customs to Race the 2014 Thruxton TransAtlantic Challenge Class

John Beldock, Head Janitor at Erico Motorsports, and Erico Motorsports' Sales Manager and Pit Crew Chief, Justin Watson, leave Colorado on Oct 7th. Team Erico Customs is heading to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, where they are scheduled to race on Oct 11th and 12th. This race is in conjunction with the 2014 Triumph Dealers of North America Conference, which they will also be attending as representatives of Erico Motorsports.

Team Erico Customs will be racing the AHRMA (American Historic Motorcycle Racing Association) Road Racing circuit. AHRMA's mission is to showcase single-, twin-, and three-cylinder motorcycles which historically have been underrepresented in modern roadracing. The Battle of Twins concept was born in the late 1980s as modern Superbike racing became increasingly dominated by inline four-cylinder machines. BoT racing kept alive the thunderous roar of twin-cylinder machines from British, European, and American manufacturers, encompassing everything from production bikes to one-off custom-built machines.

One of the most revered classes of the AHRMA circuit is the Thruxton TransAtlantic Challenge Class (Thruxton Cup). Team Erico's entry into this year's Thruxton Cup should prove to be a formidable competitor. John Beldock will be riding the “Flying Thruxton”. This 2014 Triumph Thruxton keeps true to its origins. The Thruxton Circuit was originally constructed in 1940 as RAF Thruxton: a World War II airfield which was home to both the RAF and USAF and was used during World War II for troop-carrying aircraft and gliders, including operations during the D-Day landings.

“The Flying Thruxton” is equipped with the best suspension available, and all unnecessary weight has been removed, while remaining within the Thruxton Cup regulations. The exhaust was converted to a two-into-one header and The Flying T is running on spec tires and adapted gearing for the higher ‘race-pace' speeds. Rear set foot pegs were installed for more ground clearance in the corners. Frame protection sliders and belly pan were installed, as well as safety wiring to ensure it meets race specifications. The bike has clip on handlebars to give our rider the optimum riding position and the Thruxton has updated brakes for ultimate stopping power.

On Oct 14, John and Justin will hit the road once again, headed for Daytona Beach, Florida, where they will race at the Daytona International Speedway on Oct 17-19, again in pursuit of speed and fame.

Erico Motorsports is competing in the AHRMA circuit to prove that Erico Customs can build a bike that can run with the big dogs. In 2013, Erico Customs built a 2013 Triumph Bonneville that effortlessly sailed 15 feet in the air for a total span of 50' in distance, thus clearing the fabled Erico Delivery Van parked in front of the dealership. Erico Customs has proven we are cool and functional. Now we are out to prove our custom bikes are also race-worthy.
