The Firm is representing numerous plaintiffs who suffered catastrophic heart injuries allegedly related to the 2012 GranuFlo and NaturaLyte dialysis concentrate recall.

New York, New York (PRWEB) August 29, 2014

The family of a California woman who died from cardiac arrest following a series of dialysis treatments has filed a GranuFlo lawsuit (http://www.thegranuflolawsuit.com) that alleges her death was the result of Fresenius Medical Care's GranuFlo and NaturaLyte dialysis concentrates, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. The family's lawsuit, which was file d in Alameda County Superior Court on July 10, 2014, claims that the use of the products resulted in metabolic alkalosis, a dangerous elevation of bicarbonate in the blood that can cause catastrophic cardiovascular events in dialysis plaintiffs. The complaint further alleges that Fresenius failed to warn doctors that GranuFlo and NaturaLyte contained more of an ingredient the body converts to bicarbonate in comparison to rival dialysis products, and that overdose of the medications could result in heart problems. (Case No. HG14732310)

“This is just one of thousands of lawsuits filed since the GranuFlo recall that claim the Fresenius products caused deadly heart problems in dialysis patients. Our Firm is currently representing a number of plaintiffs in similar cases,” says Bernstein Liebhard LLP, a nationwide law firm representing victims of defective drugs and medical devices. The Firm is now offering free and confidential GranuFlo lawsuit evaluations to individuals who allegedly suffered serious heart injuries after being administered the dialysis drugs.

GranuFlo and NaturaLyte Recall
Court documents indicate that more than 2,000 GranuFlo lawsuits are now pending in a multidistrict litigation underway in U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts, where Bernstein Liebhard LLP is actively filing claims. All of the lawsuits allege that administration of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte caused patients to suffer catastrophic cardiovascular events, including heart attacks, strokes, and sudden cardiac death. The lawsuits also accuse Fresenius Medical Care of failing to adequately warn dialysis patients and their doctors about the heart injuries related to the use of its products, and assert that the company continued to promote the dialysis concentrates even after becoming aware of their potential risks. GranuFlo/Naturalyte Dialysate Litigation, MDL No. 2428)
Both GranuFlo and NaturaLyte were the subject of an Urgent Product Notification issued to dialysis clinics nationwide o n March 29, 2012. In the Notification, Fresenius Medical Care warned that inappropriate dosages of GranuFlo and NaturaLyte could result in metabolic alkalosis and related cardiovascular problems. Two months later, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) http://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/Safety/ListofRecalls/ucm309990.htm granted the notification Class I recall status, its most urgent safety alert.

According to court documents, GranuFlo lawsuits point out that in November 2011, Fresenius circulated an internal memo to its own dialysis clinics advising them of the same issues noted in the March 2012 notification. Among other things, plaintiffs question why Fresenius did not notify thousands of facilities outside of its own network about these problems at that time.

Dialysis patients who allegedly suffered heart attacks, strokes, or other life-threatening heart events within 72 hours of using GranuFlo and NaturaLyte in dialysis may be entitled to file their own GranuFlo lawsuit.
