FAIRMONT, W.Va., July 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Mon Power, a FirstEnergy Corp. FE utility, continues to make significant progress restoring power to customers in West Virginia following the summer storm that downed trees and wires in the region Tuesday night.

As of 10:00 a.m., Mon Power has restored about 57,000 of the approximately 71,000 customers who lost power since the event began.  Work continues in the hardest hit areas, including Parkersburg, Clarksburg-Bridgeport, and Lewis and Preston counties.

Service is expected to be restored to majority of the remaining customers Friday, with the remainder Saturday.

More than 1,100 linemen, hazard responders, forestry workers and support personnel are involved in the restoration effort, including those from Mon Power, other FirstEnergy utilities, contractors and outside utilities.  Helicopters also have patrolled power lines to help identify outage locations.

Customers should immediately report downed wires by calling 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877).  Customers should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.
