NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

NYUPN Clinically Integrated Network, LLC (NYUPN), is collaborating with UnitedHealthcare to provide enhanced, coordinated care to more than 70,000 New York residents, and help to reduce costs through the region's largest shared savings initiative.

Under the new initiative, New York residents enrolled in UnitedHealthcare's employer-sponsored health plans will have access to NYUPN's coordinated care through its more than 1,700 clinical faculty and other health care professionals affiliated with NYU Langone Medical Center and the University Physicians Network (UPN), with a focus on helping patients improve their health.

“The shift toward greater collaboration and sharing accountability for patient health continues to accelerate and show significant promise in improving patient care and satisfaction, while saving money,” said Paula Marchetta, M.D., M.B.A., president of NYUPN. “We are partnering with UnitedHealthcare in one of the largest initiatives in the region to help improve all areas of our practice as we continue to provide the highest levels of quality care to our patients, reduce total medical costs and increase patient satisfaction across the region.”

The 70,000 UnitedHealthcare employer-sponsored plan participants who currently receive care from NYUPN care providers will not have to do anything differently to receive the benefits of the collaboration, which include enhanced care coordination and follow-up. Participating primary care doctors will receive monthly updates on their patients, enabling them to monitor all of the care the patient is receiving. This model will help manage services for patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, while keeping a focus on health and well-being by rewarding prevention, increased patient safety and appropriate care utilization.

“By working closely with our care provider partners, we can maximize quality and value for our plan participants, ultimately helping them get better care and achieve better health, all at a lower cost,” said Michael McGuire, CEO of UnitedHealthcare of New York and New Jersey. “The scale and geographic footprint of this collaboration with NYUPN will accelerate the transformation of how we pay for health care and how health care is delivered in the region.”

Today, more than $30 billion of UnitedHealthcare's annual physician and hospital reimbursements are tied to accountable care programs, centers of excellence and performance-based programs. The company projects this will reach $65 billion by 2018. For more information about UnitedHealthcare's accountable care initiatives, visit www.AccountableCareAnswers.com.
