NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the information and communications technology (ICT) solutions business within NTT NTT, today announced Light Reading's Big Telecom Event (BTE) will feature two executive speakers from the company's U.S. subsidiary, NTT America. In a Service Providers in Action spotlight, Doug Junkins, NTT America's CTO, will discuss enterprises' leverage of NTT Com's first mover advantage in commercialization of NFV-enabled services on a global scale; address delivery of the most advanced integrated cloud- and SDN-based network offering worldwide; and speak to NTT Com's continued commitment to enhance its enterprise solutions internationally. NTT America Senior Director of Technology Services Rob Schrage will also participate as a featured speaker at BTE, joining a panel discussion on telecommunications and data centers in the time of SDN/NFV innovation. The BTE will be held June 17-18, 2014, at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers in Chicago, IL.

In late May of this year, NTT Com achieved a global industry-first mover advantage with the launch of commercialized NFV services – initially cloud-based – on a global scale, powered by the January 2014 acquisition of Virtela Technology Services Incorporated. NTT Com added four new, on-demand cloud services including SSL VPN, IPsec VPN Gateway, Firewall and Application Acceleration – to the company's enterprise network services portfolio. These new services, enabled through NTT Com's pioneering work in NFV, accelerate delivery of IT services for enterprises and reduce the costs of enterprise networking. NTT Com's SDN-based customer portal allows for real-time, instant, self-service provisioning of the new services with drag-and-drop icons, and clients can pay-per-use. This comprehensive suite of new services is delivered out of 50 global data center locations, offering both proximity and the ease of one-stop shopping for NTT Com's enterprise clients.

The BTE will feature Mr. Junkins in the session titled “Virtualization Innovation: Service Providers in Action” on Tuesday, June 17 at 10 a.m., during which he will share insight into how the transition to SDN/NFV is like and unlike previous technology transitions, and how SDN/NFV represent unique possibilities for innovation/service differentiation, as well as the biggest industry challenges to SDN/NFV deployment. Highlighting NTT Com's momentum in expanding its global enterprise network services portfolio with NFV solutions, Mr. Junkins will discuss the leading role service providers play in driving SDN/NFV deployment. Additionally and on the Network Operations & Orchestration Challenges panel, scheduled for Wednesday, June 18 at 3:45 p.m., Mr. Junkins will explore operational challenges in implementing SDN/NFV, the different layers of orchestration involved, and how new operational requirements can and will coexist with traditional OSS.

As a BTE panelist on Telco Data centers in the SDN/NFV Era, scheduled for Wednesday, June 18 at 2:30 p.m., Mr. Schrage will address why network operators like NTT Com have been investing in data center technology for years to support advanced services and how data centers are becoming increasingly strategic, as they are used to deliver applications, content/video, and cloud-based services worldwide. With the advent of NFV and the transformation of data centers to SDN architectures, Mr. Schrage will explore how these valuable assets will become more agile and flexible in response to a rapidly changing competitive environment. In addition, he will discuss how the data center will evolve into an SDN/NFV virtualized telecom data center, focusing on business and technology drivers, as well as implementation of best-practices and principles.

“SDN/NFV are some of the most important communications technologies developed to date,” said Carol Wilson, event chair for the BTE. “These innovations will allow enterprise clients to improve productivity and cut costs, and their applications will make significant impacts across multiple sectors. As representatives of one of the most visionary communications service providers in the world, we are delighted to have Mr. Junkins and Mr. Schrage speak at the BTE and enlighten our attendees on the market impact of SDN/NFV from NTT Com's position as the front runner in these game-changing technologies.”

Light Reading, in partnership with leading industry organizations including SDN pioneer the Open Networking Foundation (ONF), has devised the BTE, an industry first event, to bridge the gap in the telecom industry between technology know how and business acumen. NTT Com is a board member of the ONF and actively supports the organization's mission to accelerate the adoption of open SDN.

The BTE comprises a best-in-class conference with show floor demonstrations of networking technologies and applications that deliver real insight and tangible value to attendees. The BTE will be a single big-tent event that aggregates all the hottest areas across the telecom industry – including SDN/NFV and the carrier cloud, Ethernet, telco data centers, service orchestration, packet-optical transport, mobile backhaul, mobile network security, 4G/small cells, service provider IT, content management, and business services.
