Heart rate monitors with recovery assessment, that can measure heart rate variability, are a big key to improving the quality of your training says the Heart Rate Watch Company. The company recently completed a new studied monitors that perform these assessments.

Heart rate monitors are made in hundreds of different models, by dozens of manufacturers, but only a limited few offer heart rate variability and recovery data says the Heart Rate Watch Company.

Why Heart Rate Variability and Recovery Data Is Important

"Heart Rate Variability assessment requires a monitor that does beat-by-beat analysis and the majority sold do not do this,"says Rusty Squire, President of the Heart Rate Watch Company. He adds, "Without knowing heart rate variability data you have no idea how long a recovery would be required post-workout and thus you can risk over, or under, training."

Who Has It?

"Garmin offers recovery assessment data from FirstBeat in some of their products, like the new Garmin Forerunner 620," says Squire. He adds, "The new Polar V800 also offers heart rate variability analysis and watches need to have beat by beat data to do this and not many do."

Suunto Ambit 2 also offers recovery analysis when heart rate data is downloaded to Suunto Movescount software," says Squire. He adds, "For endurance sorts this sort of data is critical to planning your training properly because without it you are simply guessing."

"This explains why you see so many serious and professional athletes using Polar, Garmin and Suunto products," says Squire. He adds, "Suunto Ambit 2 also offers beat by beat recording."

Who Needs It?

"Any athlete looking to seriously improve their performance by not over, or under, training should be considering heart rate variability data as part of their training data sets," says Squire. He adds, "While a VO2 max test might tell you something about your current potential for endurance, it does nothing to tell you the effects of your training and that is precisely what heart rate variability and recovery analysis can do."

Talk To The Experts

"If you'd like to talk to some real experts regarding which products can help you measure heart rate variability in your training then simply call us at 866-586-7129," says Squire. He adds, "We think you'll appreciate talking to experienced athletes that actually test and use the products they sell."
