MANCHESTER, Conn., March 26, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Lydall, Inc. ("Lydall" or the "Company") LDL, today announced that it officially commissioned a new wet-laid manufacturing asset to produce filtration media for its Performance Materials business headquartered in Rochester, New Hampshire. Dale Barnhart, Lydall's President and Chief Executive Officer, and Maggie Hassan, Governor of New Hampshire, were in attendance along with other state and local government officials to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the Company's latest investment in the filtration segment, referred to as the Mini Mill.

The new Mini Mill, a state-of-the-art, wet-laid nonwovens production line, is designed to be flexible and more responsive to the needs of the customer, and is contrary to the large manufacturing assets that have dominated the industry for over 100 years. This technology will provide customers with customized high quality products in smaller batch sizes.

In Barnhart's opening remarks, he stated, "Since 2007 we have been working on transforming Lydall to better focus on our customers, our employees, and our processes to produce high quality products. With the new Mini Mill, we have a world class asset that can produce filtration media of high quality standards, in a cost-effective manner that will secure a competitive advantage for us on a global basis."

Improved customer service and increased customer demand for smaller volumes of more specialized products helped guide the project. By investing in this compact, flexible line, Lydall can quickly respond to customers' needs and offer the technology required to partner with customers in a wide variety of filtration applications.

Governor Hassan thanked Lydall for their continued support of New Hampshire. "Thank you to Dale Barnhart and the Lydall Board of Directors for everything you've done to invest in this Rochester, New Hampshire site so that people can understand that New Hampshire can compete globally and that we are a leader in innovative economic growth. We are very, very grateful."
