Heavy Duty Trucking Recognizes Module for Reliable All-Weather Engine Starting

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Maxwell Technologies, Inc. MXWL, a leading developer and manufacturer of ultracapacitor-based energy storage products, today announced that its Engine Start Module (ESM) has been chosen by Heavy Duty Trucking for the 2014 Top 20 Products award. The ESM ensures reliable engine cranking no matter the conditions and reduces or eliminates costly jump-starts. Heavy Duty Trucking will present Maxwell with the award at the TMC Annual Meeting and Transportation Technology Exhibit in Nashville, Tenn. from March 10 through 12.

The ESM was chosen as a top product based on Heavy Duty Trucking's editorial coverage from December 2012 through November 2013. Finalists were chosen by a panel of judges, including Heavy Duty Trucking's editors and a panel of fleet executives and motor carrier maintenance experts, based on innovation, ability to address top industry issues and potential to improve a fleet's bottom line.

Maxwell's Engine Start Module is a group 31 form factor that delivers the quick-burst power diesel-powered class 7 and 8 trucks need to crank their engines in extreme weather, down to -40 degrees Celsius. The ultracapacitor module is rugged and lightweight with very low maintenance requirements. It delivers power for hundreds of thousands of reliable starts, lowers the total cost of ownership and maximizes on-time deliveries. Maxwell recently announced it is supplying its ESM to Idle Free Systems, Inc. for the Work Truck No Idle Heat System™.

"Fleet managers and operators claim jump-starts, late loads and Monday morning scrambles are their key pain points. The Engine Start Module is an effective solution that addresses all of these issues," said Jeremy Cowperthwaite, vice president and general manager of Maxwell's Engine Starting Group. "Inclusion on Heavy Duty Trucking's list confirms the market need for this type of solution."
