Carmike Cinemas Plans to Construct New State-Of-The-Art 12-Screen Entertainment Complex in Spring Hill, TN

COLUMBUS, Ga. & SPRING HILL, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Carmike Cinemas, Inc. CKEC, a leading entertainment, digital cinema and 3-D motion picture exhibitor, today announced that the Company will open a new 12-screen entertainment complex featuring its ‘Big D' premium experience in Spring Hill, Tennessee (2068 Crossing Circle, Spring Hill, TN 37174). Construction has already begun for the new location, an extension of The Crossing South of Spring Hill shopping center located at the intersection of US Highway 31 and Saturn Parkway.

The new theatre will be furnished with 12 screens and have total seating capacity for more than 2,500 guests. The BigD, Carmike's own premium large screen format experience auditorium, will seat 540 patrons. All auditoriums in the leading-edge entertainment complex will be equipped with stadium seating with comfortable high-back rocking luxury seats, retractable armrests and convenient cup holders. The Carmike 12 will contain large, wall-to-wall screens, DLP digital projection and digital surround sound in all auditoriums.

The facility's upscale lobby will contain multiple concession areas featuring self-serve Coca-Cola Freestyle drink centers, which pour more than 100 customized fountain drink varieties. One-stop ticketing will also be included in the lobby area so cinemagoers will be able to escape the elements and purchase their tickets and favorite concessions at the same transaction point. The new complex also provides special services for visually and hearing impaired patrons using Sony Closed Captioning glasses (CC) as well as descriptive and amplified audio (VI & HI).

All BigD auditoriums have wall-to-wall screens with Spring Hill being no exception. The new BigD screen in Spring Hill will measure 70 feet wide by three stories tall. To further enhance the premium experience, a custom QSC digital audio system will be tuned to a 7.1 speaker array with 16 channels, upgradeable to 11.1 surround sound. This system is a true revolution in sound technology, with digital audio processing supported by quad-amplified, 4-way speakers, and 21-inch subwoofers. The BigD is powered by a cutting-edge Christie Brilliant 3-D flash projector, which will also present 2-D entertainment. The end result is a light output of 30,000 lumens, creating a picture quality with noticeably higher resolution than HD.
