Inclusive discount program also generates revenue for public programs

Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (PRWEB) January 14, 2013

Coast2Coast Rx announced today that residents of the City of Houston have saved more than $11,216,000 on prescription costs since the launch of the free discount prescription program in October 2010. In 2012 alone, residents saved more than $5,971,000 off the regular price of their prescription medications.

For residents, the card is free, accessible to everyone, easy to use—and most importantly, it saves individuals and families up to 75 percent on over 60,000 of prescription drugs thereby allowing consumers to get the prescriptions they need to better manage their health. For the city of Houston, the card serves as a source of revenue; for each prescription filled using a Coast2Coast Rx card, the city receives $1.25 for public programs—at no cost to the taxpayer. In previous years the revenue has helped support the Houston Health Department and Human Services Foundation, a nonprofit supporting public health and human service programs that have no other dedicated source of income.

“With more than $10 million in savings and with only a small percentage of constituents using the card so far, the Coast2Coast program has demonstrated its effectiveness,” stated Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that provides the discount prescription card. “This program has extraordinary potential to positively impact residents, as savings on prescriptions translates into better health outcomes. Our goal is to get the card into the hands of as many Houston residents as possible.”

The card is available to all Houston residents regardless of age, income or health status. For the uninsured and those facing the expense of needed prescriptions with insufficient coverage or high deductibles under a current plan, the card can be a significant cost-saver. In some cases the discounts can help offset the gap in coverage that Medicare Part D patients sometimes experience. More than 59,000 pharmacies nationwide accept the card, including major chains and many independent establishments. Discounts on certain dental, vision, hearing, lab services, diabetes supplies, and even pet prescriptions and veterinary services are available through partner programs—all while enjoying the convenience of using the same card for an entire family.

Consumers can follow Coast2Coast Rx on Facebook and Twitter to join in the conversation and stay updated. Residents are also able to print the discount card at http://www.coast2coastrx.com/cities/tx/houston/ and view the nearest participating pharmacy locations at http://www.coast2coastrx.com.
