New Shot Dropz Making Individual Drink Mixers for Cruises and Travel

A new product is using simple packaging as one method to reach a wider audience. Shot Dropz is an emerging venture started by entrepreneur Glenn Hettinger. While on a cruise, Hettinger was inspired to develop an alternative for travelers who had their own liquor but needed a mixer to reproduce flavors of popular drinks like a lemon drop, an appletini or a margarita. His answer was .5 ounces of concentrated flavor to be added to one ounce of liquor for a pleasant and convenient mixed drink, easy to create anywhere. Hettinger partnered with Illinois-based packaging leader Assemblies Unlimited to design unique packaging to bring his new product to market.

“Designing the right packaging for Shot Dropz presented us with a few unique challenges,” stated Randy Shaw of Assemblies Unlimited. “We needed to produce a disposable, food-grade option that helped convey how easy and convenient Shot Dropz are. The packaging needed to be affordable yet distinctive, and was meant to help illustrate that you simply add one packet to a shot of liquor to get the party started wherever you are. Our design used a bottle-shaped disposable package with colors to help individual flavors be immediately recognizable as well as prominent branding to help establish the Shot Dropz name in its emerging markets. We feel that with this properly conceived packaging, the customers targeted for this new product are going to see its intrinsic value and be more inclined to try it on their next trip. It is specifically designed to be able to go anywhere you do; it is meant to be tucked unobtrusively into a purse or into a small travel bag as our packaging illustrates. A product like Shot Dropz is a great example of using the packaging as part of the product's overall appeal: it is a uniquely simple idea, and portability and ease-of-use are parts of the sales/market advantage. Our final packaging choices for Shot Dropz come together to create a distinctive and memorable product using packaging designed specifically to enhance the message of its utility.”

Shot Dropz are now available for online purchase in 24-packs, in one of four distinctive flavors. Shot Dropz are also being introduced in local restaurants and bars across the country in promotional parties where attendees are encouraged to sample the different flavors and see how easy it is to ‘bring the party anywhere.'
