Liberty University Information Technology celebrated its 12-year partnership with Cisco and SyCom, leading network IT systems and consulting companies, at a special luncheon in the New Schilling Center Nov. 9.

In those last 12 years, Liberty has gone from limited residence hall connectivity and no VLAN support, to now having more than 200 network closets, three data centers, and more than 1.7 petabytes of storage. Liberty IT currently monitors nearly 3,000 systems 24/7 and has serviced 42,000 calls in the last year.

About 300 attended the event, which welcomed all Liberty IT employees, as well as special guests from Cisco and SyCom, including: Tom Cricchi, SyCom president and CEO; Eric Knobloch, Cisco public sector region manager; Richard Shumaker, Cisco public sector account manager; Scott Shepherd, Cisco systems engineer; Bryan Brown, Cisco systems engineer manager; Matt Mandroc, Cisco operations director; Jeff Glen, SyCom regional sales manager, Roanoke; Ginger Sibold-Baldwin, SyCom account manager; and Hunter Gallalee, SyCom marketing assistant.

The luncheon included food, drinks, giveaways, music, a presentation on network/technology growth, and remarks from Cricchi, Knobloch, and Matt Zealand, Liberty's CIO.

“Liberty is having another incredibly successful and busy year,” Zealand told the IT team. “Your diligence and passion behind our mission in training world changers is what makes Liberty University such an incredible place. Thank you to everyone for what they do for our institution, and this event was just a little token of that appreciation.”

The special guests arrived on campus prior to the event for a meet-and-greet with Liberty vice presidents and deans, followed by a tour of campus, showing Liberty's expansive growth and construction projects.

“Having been to Liberty many times, I was not surprised by the warm hospitality and wonderful people that guided our extended tour,” Cricchi said. “But I feel truly blessed by the active engagement of the IT leadership team and the deans in sharing their vision about Liberty in general and our partnership in particular.”

Liberty University, located in Lynchburg, Va., is the world's largest Christian university. Nearly 100,000 students attend classes on its 6,800-acre residential campus and study in its thriving online education program.
