Saint Louis, MO (PRWEB) November 09, 2012

St. Louis, MO, November 9, 2012 - The Mission Continues, a national nonprofit that helps post-9/11 veterans transition from military service to civilian life through community service work, will host veteran-led service projects across the country in recognition of Veterans Day. Disney VoluntEARS will work alongside veterans in five cities, helping to renovate veteran's shelters and community centers.

The projects will take place in: Anaheim, California; Bristol, Connecticut; Los Angeles, California; New York City, New York; and Orlando, Florida.

Fueled by the deep belief that veterans are among this country's greatest assets, The Mission Continues believes that through service, both in the military and at home, veterans have the power to inspire our nation.

“The Mission Continues is honored to have Disney VoluntEARS participate in these projects that celebrate our nation's service members,” said Spencer Kympton, COO of The Mission Continues. “Through these service projects, we challenge veterans to utilize their military skills to inspire others to serve here at home.”

Continuing its long history of respect and appreciation for the U.S. Armed Forces, Disney launched Heroes Work Here, a company-wide initiative to hire, train, and support returning veterans in March 2012. As part of the initiative, Disney committed to providing at least 1,000 jobs and career opportunities for returning U.S. veterans over the next three years, supporting military families and veterans during their transition into civilian life, and launching a national public awareness campaign to encourage all employers across the U.S. to hire veterans.

In addition to these efforts, Disney VoluntEARS dedicate their time and talents to numerous service projects that support military families annually, and the company has provided grants to nonprofits, including The Mission Continues, which offer support services for veterans. The Mission Continues helps veterans transition from the military by granting six-month community service fellowships for post-9/11 veterans to work with nonprofit organizations.

“True service never stops, the only reward for your service is the knowledge that you did your part,” said Anthony Hodge, Los Angeles project leader and a The Mission Continues fellow.

After serving ten years in the Marine Corps, Hodge accepted a six-month fellowship at The Los Angeles Boys & Girls Club. He will be spearheading the service project at New Directions—a supportive housing and residential treatment center for thousands of veterans—in Los Angeles. Hodge will lead volunteers in providing much needed renovations and improvements for the facility.

Veterans and military families are encouraged to register for these projects. To find out more, visit The Mission Continues at http://www.missioncontinues.org.
