SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Charles Schwab is celebrating Veterans' Day this year with a new award recognizing the company's military-friendly practices.

GI Jobs magazine has named Schwab a 2013 Top 100 Military Friendly Employer®. The companies receiving this recognition were selected from a survey sample of 5,000 companies whose annual revenues exceed $500 million. Criteria for selection include the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention efforts, and company policies regarding National Guard and Reserve service. The full list and Schwab's company profile can be found on MilitaryFriendly.com.

Earlier this year, Schwab also received Military Edge magazine's “Best for Vets” award for the third consecutive year.

“Thanks to the hundreds of veterans and reservists now employed in a wide range of Schwab careers, we know the distinct value service members bring to the workplace. We are committed to providing opportunities that support veterans in applying their unique skills and experience, as well as the training needed to ensure a smooth transition and continued professional growth,” said Ryan Kosowsky, Managing Director of Talent Acquisition at Schwab and Major in the U.S. Army National Guard.

Schwab is actively recruiting for a variety of positions in most of its major employment centers across the U.S. These include, Austin, Phoenix, Denver, Indianapolis, Cleveland and Orlando. Open positions are in the areas of technology, client service & support, branch office, corporate retirement services and operations. Interested candidates are encouraged to visit aboutschwab.com/careers.

“Whether a job candidate seeks to work directly with clients or prefers a supporting role, all our employees share a common purpose: to champion our clients' goals with passion and integrity. So it's natural for us to put a premium on job candidates who share a devotion to helping others,” said Kosowsky.

About the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers® list

Now in its 10th year, the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers list is considered a premier resource for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment. The survey results that determined the 2013 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by G.I. Jobs. Each year companies taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Advisory Board consisting of leaders in the military recruitment community. A full list of board members can be found at www.MilitaryFriendly.com/board.
