Private Jet Central is Advising all Customers to Book as Early as Possible for the Olympics

From the 14th of July to September 12th there will be major airspace restrictions in place over the UK. All private jet charter flights to 35 airports in the south of England must reserve a slot allocation well in advance.

The Olympic Games which begin on the 27th July and run until the 12th of August are expected to be the highlight of the summer in the UK. However with more than 500,000 visitors expected from countries around the world and an additional 3,000 charter jet flights the event is going to put a huge strain on the air traffic control system in the south of England. The ACL (Airport Coordination Limited) has announced major airspace restrictions from July 14th to September 12th in the south of England. This period covers both the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games. During this period all IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) flights to 35 airports and airfields in the south of England must reserve a slot allocation well in advance of their flight. The large number of both commercial and charter flights arriving in the UK and fears about delays and flow control have prompted the ACL to introduce the reservation system.

Slot allocations are allocated on a first come first serve basis and slots at some airports are already close to full capacity. Booking early is essential to the get a preferred time slot and airport. Full details of the flight plan and the type of aircraft being used must be provided well in advance to the ACL. In addition the reserved slot is only valid for the specified time period. Any delays in the flight will mean that a later slot will have to be taken. Heathrow and Gatwick will only be accepting commercial flights during the restricted period although there are a large number of airfields around London able to handle private jets of all sizes.

The MD of PJC has said “The London Olympics is going to be hectic to say the least”. He went on to say “We are advising all clients to book as early as possible to get the slot they want”. The periods around the opening and closing ceremonies are expected to be particularly highly in demand.
