New Naturally Derived Product Helps Industrial Sector Avoid Costly Damage Caused by Invasive Mussels

The conference, being held November 13-17 at The Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Fla., will present the latest in scientific advances and practical applications for industrial water treatment, cutting across a wide range of industries and functional areas. Visitors to the MBI booth will have the opportunity to obtain product information and preview recently released results from field studies of Zequanox™ at the Bureau of Reclamation's Davis Dam on the lower Colorado River.

Recently approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Zequanox is the industry's first naturally derived product developed to selectively control zebra and quagga mussels (Dreissena species). The product has significant benefits over current chemical treatments, which can be toxic to beneficial species and pollute waterways. Trials indicate that Zequanox is easier to use, is less labor intensive, and requires a shorter treatment time than chlorine. It can be used by industrial facilities, power plants and raw water treatment facilities as an alternative to chemical treatments, such as chlorine, or as a complement to chemical products.
