Attendees Learn Pain-Free Ways To Exercise During Recent Workshop By Friends Life Care

Friends Life Care, the non-profit Pennsylvania-based organization that provides a unique long term care solution, recently completes the Exercise: A Prescription for Vitality workshop as part of its VigR™ program which focuses on holistic approaches to healthy, active living.

Wayne, PA (PRWEB) August 10, 2011

The long term care company Friends Life Care completes its strength and conditioning workshop Exercise: A Prescription for Vitality. This six-week exercise course held in Wilmington, DE, is led by the trained physical therapist Brian Walls.

During this workshop dedicated to strength and conditioning, participants learn about the nature of movement in fun, pain-free ways to exercise and strengthen the body. The 90 minute sessions cover fitness and aging issues and also serve as an exercise class.

Among the following are some of the pain-free exercises the participants perform:

  • Push ups: floor push ups, chair push ups and wall push ups
  • 1/2 squats: free standing, using the back of a chair, with a partner
  • Standing from a chair: without the use of an armrest, using an armrest, using a partner
  • Split Squat: free standing, using the wall or pillar
  • Single leg 1/2 squat: using a pillar or a partner
  • Hamstring stretch: in the chair, standing up or on the floor
  • Upper back stretch: in the chair or standing up with rounded shoulders
  • Neck stretches: only stretching within the pain free range
  • Abdominal exercises: performed in the chair or standing up with a partner without back flexion.

Workshop leader Brian Walls says, “Perhaps the greatest improvement that I witnessed was the self-growth within each of the participants and the group as a whole.”

Friends Life Care offers interactive educational courses presented by respected leaders in their fields that explore diverse topics, from mental and physical fitness to retirement transitions. The company promotes healthy, active living through its proprietary program, VigR™ (pronounced vigor)-a proactive research based offering created to help participants strengthen and extend their mental and physical health and resilience. According to the Friends Life Care team, VigR™ stands for vitality, independence, growth and resilience, all of which stave off the effects of chronological aging.

VigR™ Enrichment Workshops take place in each of these six major geographic service locations: Center City Philadelphia, Eastern Montgomery County, Mainline Philadelphia, Bucks County, Chester County, and Wilmington, DE. As part of its mission to help people age in place at home with their unique solution for long-term care, Friends Life Care designs workshops that address the specific needs of baby boomers and seniors. The fall VigR™ Enrichment Workshop series will be announced in August. Registration will open to both Friends Life Care members and to the general public.
