American Meditation Institute's Meditation and Yoga Mind-Body Medicine Course Certified for Physicians by Albany Medical College

For the third consecutive year The American Meditation Institute in Averill Park, New York, will teach physicians, nurses and the general public a mind-body medicine course on meditation and yoga.

For the third consecutive year, The American Meditation Institute (AMI) in Averill Park, New York, will teach physicians, nurses and the general public a mind-body medicine course on meditation and yoga. Entitled “American Meditation: The Heart and Science of Yoga,” this comprehensive training in mind-body medicine is accredited through the Albany Medical College Office of Continuing Medical Education. Attending physicians will receive a maximum of 16 AMA PRA Category 1 creditsTM.

As part of the American Meditation Institute's “Yoga of Medicine” program, this course is taught by Leonard Perlmutter, founder and director of AMI, and award-winning author of “The Heart and Science of Yoga: A Blueprint for Peace, Happiness and Freedom from Fear." Noted physicians Mehmet Oz, Dean Ornish, Bernie Siegel and Larry Dossey have endorsed Mr. Perlmutter's book, which serves as the curriculum for the course.

Since 1995, Mr. Perlmutter has lectured extensively on the health benefits of yoga and meditation, including the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Albany Medical Center, Stratton VA Medical Center, University of Colorado Medical School, University of Wisconsin School of Nursing, Washington University Medical School and the Commonwealth Club of California. He also served on a distinguished New York Times panel of Yoga experts with Dr. Dean Ornish.

The National Institutes of Health report that approximately 38% of adults in the United States aged 18 and over, and nearly 12% of U.S. children 17 years and under use some form of complementary and alternative medicine. Significant among these therapies are deep breathing exercises, meditation and yoga––all of which are offered in “The Heart and Science of Yoga” course. “We are grateful to the Albany Medical College for their continued dedication to the teaching of mind/body medicine for physicians," Perlmutter said. "The content of this program will provide many benefits for the health and well being of physicians and their patients."

The “Heart and Science of Yoga,” American Meditation Institute's Comprehensive Training in Holistic Mind/Body Medicine course is an in-depth study of the historical, philosophical and scientific nature of meditation and yoga as taught in both the East and West. Practical skills are taught which positively impact the making of health-affirming lifestyle choices.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Albany Medical College and the American Meditation Institute. Albany Medical College is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

The Albany Medical College designates this Live activity for a maximum of 16 AMA PRA Category 1 creditsTM

"American Meditation: The Heart and Science of Yoga" is presently offered throughout the year as a six-week course, Tuesday evenings from 6:30 – 9:00pm at the American Meditation Institute in Averill Park, New York. It will also be offered for physicians, nurses and other health care professionals in a weekend retreat format November 3-6, 2011 at the Cranwell Resort, Spa and Golf Club in Lenox, Massachusetts.
