Cigna Foundation Announces Grants to Help Improve Health in Wyoming

BLOOMFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

The Cigna Foundation today announced grants to the American Diabetes Association and the American Cancer Society in Wyoming to help reduce obesity, diabetes and the use of tobacco products to improve overall health. Obesity, diabetes and smoking all have an impact on Wyoming residents and address Wyoming's public health priorities.

"Obesity is associated with an increased risk of cancer and diabetes, and we're pleased to do anything we can to help people understand the connection between obesity and disease, and how to adopt healthy lifestyles," said Chris De Rosa, president of the Western region for Cigna, including Wyoming.

The Cigna Foundation is giving $35,000 to the American Diabetes Foundation for its Diabetes Prevention Program, through which participants will learn new health habits with a health coach, and will be part of a support group aimed at helping each other lower the risk of type 2 diabetes. Program goals for participants include weight loss, healthy eating, and increased physical activity.

The American Cancer Society also will receive $35,000 to establish polices, programs and practices to reduce obesity and provide tobacco education through new collaborations with Wyoming health providers and hospitals, school systems, and community organizations.

"By working with these non-profit organizations to address specific health challenges, we're investing in the community and demonstrating our commitment to the health of Wyoming. We're excited to get started," said David Figliuzzi, executive director of the Cigna Foundation.
