Worst Performing Industries For September 26, 2016

The Dow fell 0.72 percent to 18,129.52, while the NASDAQ composite index declined 0.76 percent to 5,265.23. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 index slipped 0.62 percent to 2,151.24.

The worst performing industries in the market today are:

  • Publishing - Books: This industry slipped 3.1 percent by 11:00 am. The worst stock within the industry was Pearson PLC (ADR) PSO, which fell 4.2 percent. Pearson shares have dropped 41.44 percent over the past 52 weeks, while the S&P 500 index has gained 15.03 percent in the same period.
  • General Entertainment: This industry declined 2.1 percent by 11:00 am with Carnival plc (ADR) CUK moving down 2.5 percent. Carnival reported Q3 adjusted earnings of $1.92 per share on sales of $5.1 billion.
  • Education & Training Services: This industry fell 2 percent by 11:00 am ET. Universal Technical Institute, Inc. UTI shares dropped 13 percent in today's trading. AdvanSix Inc. ASIX will replace Universal Technical Institute in the S&P SmallCap 600 after the close of trading on October 3.
  • Photographic Equipment & Supplies: The industry dropped 1.9 percent by 11:00 am. The worst performer in this industry was GoPro Inc GPRO, which declined 2.2 percent.
