Alliance Coal Grants Scholarships to Employees' Children

Alliance Coal grants 15 college scholarships and five teacher recognition awards, as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Scholars Program.

Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. ARLP and Alliance Holdings GP, L.P. AHGP this week announced scholarship awards to 15 outstanding graduating seniors and recognition awards to five extraordinary teachers.

The Alliance Coal Scholars Program recognizes academic achievement and leadership in school and community activities among the sons and daughters of employees. Renewable $2,000 scholarships are awarded to the top five graduating high school seniors. Ten scholarships of $1,000 are awarded to the next highest-ranking candidates.

Since 1996, the program has provided $298,500 in scholarships to 175 students. In addition, five teachers are selected annually to receive a $500 Alliance Coal Teacher Achievement Award. A total of $32,000 has been given to exemplary teachers since the program started 20 years ago.

The top five students, awarded $2,000 renewable scholarships, are:

Mitchell Collins, graduate of Castle High School in Newburgh, Indiana, son of Michelle Collins, employed by Matrix Design Group, LLC in Newburgh, Indiana. Mitchell will major in Chemistry at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.

Dasha Kolyaskina, graduate of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, Kentucky, daughter of Dmitry Kolyaskin, employed by Alliance Coal, LLC in Lexington, Kentucky. Dasha will major in Finance at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.

Annalyse Mann, graduate of Tolsia High School in Fort Gay, West Virginia, daughter of George Mann, employed by Excel Mining, LLC in Pikeville, Kentucky. Annalyse will study Nursing at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia.

Kerrigan Murphy, graduate of Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Illinois, daughter of Byron Stephens, employed by White County Coal, LLC near Carmi, Illinois. Kerrigan will study Nursing at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Joshua Stillwell, graduate of Union County High School in Morganfield, Kentucky, son of Robert Stillwell, employed by River View Coal, LLC near Waverly, Kentucky. Joshua will major in Engineering at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.

The scholars receiving $1,000 awards are:

Blake Anthis, graduate of Princeton Community High School in Princeton, Indiana, daughter of John Anthis, employed by Gibson County Coal, LLC near Owensville, Indiana. Blake will study Nursing at Indiana University Bloomington in Bloomington, Indiana.

Leeanna Blair, graduate of Madisonville North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, daughter of Jodi Blair, employed by CR Services, LLC in Nebo, Kentucky. Leeanna will major in Pharmacy at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.

Douglas Center, graduate of Madisonville North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, son of Doug Center, employed by Warrior Coal, LLC in Madisonville, Kentucky. Douglas will major in History at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

Cody Cooper, graduate of Sheldon Clark High School in Inez, Kentucky, son of Ricky Slone, employed by Excel Mining, LLC in Pikeville, Kentucky. Cody will major in Education at Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, Kentucky.

Melanie Ellison, graduate of Norris City-Omaha-Enfield High School in Norris City, Illinois, daughter of Michael Ellison, employed by River View Coal, LLC near Waverly, Kentucky. Melanie will study Dietetics at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana.

Dylan Hollis, graduate of Crittenden County High School in Marion, Kentucky, son of Larry Hollis, employed by Webster County Coal, LLC near Providence, Kentucky. Dylan will study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

Jacob Marrs, graduate of Lincoln Christian School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, son of Angela Marrs, employed by Alliance Coal, LLC in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jacob will study Digital Cinema at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

Brooke Naylor, graduate of Carmi-White County High School in Carmi, Illinois, daughter of David Naylor, employed by White County Coal, LLC near Carmi, Illinois. Brooke will major in Science at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg, Illinois.

Madison Vandiver, graduate of Madisonville North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Kentucky, daughter of Murray Vandiver, employed by Webster County Coal, LLC near Providence, Kentucky. Madison will major in Biology/Pre-Med at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky.

Emma Wallace, graduate of Harrisburg High School in Harrisburg, Illinois, daughter of Denny Wallace, employed by White County Coal, LLC near Carmi, Illinois. Emma will major in Education/Mathematics at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg, Illinois.

The Alliance Coal Scholars Program also supports excellence in teaching through its Alliance Coal Teacher Achievement Awards. Each of the top five scholarship recipients selects an elementary, junior-high or senior-high teacher for the $500 award.
