Welltower Raises Over $3 Million to Combat Alzheimer's Disease

TOLEDO, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Welltower Inc. HCN today announced that it raised more than $3 million for the Alzheimer's Association, including more than $250,000 by Welltower employees and a $250,000 grant from the Welltower Foundation. In conjunction with the company's fundraising activities, Welltower's Chief Executive Officer Thomas J. DeRosa was recognized as the Alzheimer's Association National Honoree at their annual Brain Ball which was held on Friday, May 6th in Washington, D.C. More than 700 guests attended the event, which elevated the profile of Alzheimer's disease and raised research funds and funding for critical support services to individuals, families and caregivers facing the daily challenges of the disease.

"Alzheimer's disease is the sixth leading cause of death in America and cannot be prevented or cured. This needs to be a national priority," said DeRosa. "I'm proud of the work our operating partners are doing, each and every day, to improve the quality of life of those with Alzheimer's. To raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease, the company produced and distributed a public service announcement and joined forces with Miss USA 2015 Olivia Jordan to ring the Opening Bell® at the New York Stock Exchange on May 6th. Olivia also participated in a ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building, which was lit purple for Alzheimer's awareness.
