Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Network Unveils Innovative Blood and Marrow Transplantation Technology with Velos, Inc.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Sarah Cannon, the cancer institute of Hospital Corporation of America HCA, and StafaCT, Inc., an affiliate of clinical research and specialty medical software provider, Velos Inc., announced their partnership in developing new technology for comprehensive electronic blood and marrow transplantation (BMT). Together, the partners created Stafa, a software focused on elevating patient care by managing the transplantation process and supporting the ability to monitor FACT compliance and process improvement.

Across the industry, blood and marrow transplantation data has historically been recorded through paper documentation. In an effort to route patients and stem cell products seamlessly through the transplant process, Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Network sought an electronic system. With the development of this software, Sarah Cannon's BMT programs now have access to a comprehensive patient management software to track stem cell products from collection through infusion, and provide more effective long-term care management.

"Ensuring patients have access to the highest level of care throughout the transplantation process is central to our mission," said Fred LeMaistre, MD, Physician in Chief of Blood Cancers, Sarah Cannon. "By creating and implementing a technology that supports improved patient outcomes and integrated communication for the entire care team, we are setting a new standard in patient care."

Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Network programs that have adopted the use of the software include: Texas Transplant Institute at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX, St. David's South Austin Medical Center in Austin, TX, and OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. The remaining network programs will begin using the software by the end of 2016. Given the successful deployment and pilot results of the technology over the last three years, Sarah Cannon and StafaCT are working together to develop additional functionality and enhancements to the software. Plans include the design and integration of clinical pathways decision support and monitoring, post-transplant care management, as well as several other features to support compliance management.

"StafaCT provides an electronic workflow that ensures key actions are taken for every BMT patient, every time," said Kamar Aulakh, CEO, StafaCT, Inc. "With all departments involved in the blood and marrow transplantation process utilizing the software, we can rapidly identify areas of opportunity to drive process improvement and real-time reporting capabilities such as program health and quality outcomes."

The Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Network is one of the largest providers of blood and marrow transplantation conducting approximately 1,000 transplants annually through seven FACT accredited transplant programs and has performed approximately 12,000 transplants to date. Through its commitment to the highest level of quality standards, infrastructure, technology, training and research, the Sarah Cannon Blood Cancer Network provides an unparalleled experience for patients seeking treatment.
