Dunlap Jr. & Associates LLC announced the filing of a nationwide class action lawsuit against the student-loan giant SLM Corporation SLM, popularly known as Sallie Mae, and its subsidiaries and affiliates, over alleged unauthorized auto-dialer calls to the cell phones of persons across the United States. The class action complaint was filed in federal district court in Memphis, Tennessee. It seeks both injunctive relief and money damages.  The case is Parchman v. SLM Corporation, et al., Case 2:15-cv-02819 (W.D. Tenn. 2016).

"Congress passed the Telephone Consumer Protection Act ('TCPA') to stop abusive telephone practices, including strict limits on the use of auto-dialers to call cell phones," explained Mr. Dunlap. "The complaint charges that Sallie Mae has deployed automatic telephone dialing systems to make non-emergency calls to persons who did not expressly consent to be called on their cell phones within the meaning of the TCPA."
