ForSaleByOwner.com, the Nation's Leading DIY Real-Estate Site, Sees Strong Increase in Year-over-Year Listings in Each Region of Country

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

All regions of the country saw significant increases in the number of people opting to sell their homes on their own in the traditional home-selling season this year, with the Northeast leading the way with the highest year-over-year increase of 17 percent, according to newly released data from ForSaleByOwner.com, the nation's leading provider of self-directed real estate sales.

The data, which measures the traditional home-selling season of April through August, reveals that listings in all regions of the country saw strong increases, with the West up 12 percent, the South up 11 percent and the Midwest growing 5 percent. Throughout the season, homeowners who sold their home using ForSaleByOwner.com collectively saved $77 million in real estate commissions.

"Typically, we see our highest year-over-year increases in seller traffic during the summer months, and this year has proven to be no exception," said Lisa Edwards, Director of Business Strategy of ForSaleByOwner.com. "The increase in confidence among consumers in DIY home selling only continues to build as we work to simplify the process of selling a home by owner."

In the core summer months of June through August, when home sales are typically at their strongest, ForSaleByOwner.com data reveals that homeowners also sold their homes more quickly than those assisted by agents, as compared to data from the National Association of Realtors. ForSaleByOwner.com customers experienced an average of four days less on market in June, six days less on market in July and an impressive 17 less days on market in August.

As the 2015 home selling season comes to a close, ForSaleByOwner.com also revealed the top 20 states where homeowners successfully sold their homes on their own using the site. According to data from ForSaleByOwner.com, 11 of the top 20 states are in the South, with six of the top 20 in the Midwest, and three in the East, reflecting strong return of the housing markets in those regions.
