Initiative supports Tanzanian government effort to stop illegal wildlife trade in that country

CHANTILLY, Va., July 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Engility Holdings, Inc. EGL, today announced it has been awarded a $14 million contract by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to provide specialized technical assistance in Tanzania. Engility will help the Tanzanian government fight illegal wildlife trade while increasing tourism and related business activities in the country.

Under USAID's Promoting Tanzania's Environment, Conservation and Tourism (PROTECT) program, Engility will work to identify and develop innovative "win-win" solutions for the people and natural landscapes in Tanzania. Illegal trafficking of wildlife products like ivory and rhino horn has become a lucrative business, with sophisticated supply chains across the globe. At the same time, tourism and other nature-based enterprises represent a significant source of economic and social development for Tanzania.

"The PROTECT program's focus on eradication of wildlife poaching and trafficking is an increasing priority for USAID, and Engility appreciates the opportunity to support this important effort," said Engility President and CEO Tony Smeraglinolo. "This contract will enable Engility to expand its technical assistance work in Africa, where we currently support a range of programs designed to further USAID's mission to end extreme global poverty and enable resilient, democratic societies to realize their potential."

The contract represents new work and is a cost-plus-fixed-fee, five-year award.
