GTSO: New MMJ Regulations Spur Development of 'Cannabis Breathalyzer' and Other Tech Innovations

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

As U.S. states continue relaxing cannabis bans, new industry regulations are spurring on radical innovations that could both help and hinder the rapidly rising North American cannabis sector, says Green Technology Solutions, Inc. GTSO CEO Wallace W. Browne.

One of the most hotly anticipated new technologies among legislators and law enforcement is the "cannabis breathalyzer:" a handheld device intended to help police test drivers who may be impaired. So far, none of these devices has hit the market yet. But a number of developers are working on the technology, and they plan to recoup their research and development costs. The Edmonton Sun reported this month that Colorado-based Lifeloc Technologies, a top name in alcohol breathalyzers, expects to charge $2,500-$3,500 for its cannabis breathalyzer now in development. The company's alcohol breathalyzers sell for $300-$400.

"The race to deliver the first workable breathalyzer for cannabis is indicative of where this sector is heading," Browne said. "Cannabis patients and businesses alike will have to adapt to new regulations. Accurate testing, measurements and labeling will be key to the cannabis industry moving forward, and there are some potentially lucrative opportunities there that we'll be exploring. "

GTSO is working alongside Denver-based cannabis edibles developer Elevated Industries in order to deliver new products tailored to increasingly sophisticated cannabis businesses and consumers in Colorado and beyond. The two companies plan to deliver a suite of cannabis products trusted by card holders and regulators alike.

As the nationwide market for cannabis continues to grow, GTSO plans to keep building new tools to help wholesalers and retailers guarantee their edible products' potency, consistency and safety to their customers.
