SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Immersion Corporation IMMR, the leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, and Ubisoft, a leading interactive games publisher, today announced the availability of a tactile-enhanced version of Trials Frontier, the free-to-play mobile title from RedLynx, a Ubisoft studio. Entering into a new category of mobile games – games you can feel, this version of Trials Frontier immerses gamers into the thrill of exploring a vast future world on a motorcycle. Gamers will feel the rough terrain as they race to complete missions and overcome challenges. Trials Frontier is one of the first games designed with custom tactile effects using TouchSense® Engage, Immersion's haptic technology for creating interactive experiences that engage the sense of touch.

"It is exciting to be on the cutting-edge of this new mobile gaming world where touch can be incorporated with video and sound design," said Justin Swan, creative manager at Ubisoft. "We wanted to give our users a unique experience in the new design of our game. Haptic technology rounds out the experience. It is a great addition to Trials Frontier that brings a whole new sensory experience to our players. The custom design solution provided through TouchSense Engage made it possible for us to explore a range of tactile effect design before settling in on what was right for our game."

"Working on Trials Frontier was a fun experience," said Nick Thomas, head of mobile gaming at Immersion. "The game puts players in another world where the terrain is foreign. The game's design allowed us to be creative in our approach in developing customized tactile effects to re-create the experience with the sense of touch."

Because of the precise method in which TouchSense Engage controls the actuator in the mobile device, tactile effects have a low impact on battery consumption, consuming on average only about one to three percent of battery use, depending on the use case.

Content, games and media enhanced with tactile effects using TouchSense Engage work on the wide range of Android mobile devices on the market today and are optimized for devices running TouchSense technology in their operating system.
