Rentrak Cross-Platform Entertainment Rankings - Feb. 18, 2015

--Only Rentrak Precisely Measures Movies & TV Everywhere--

PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Rentrak RENT, the leader in precisely measuring movies and TV everywhere, today announced the top weekly cross-platform entertainment rankings for Feb. 18, 2015.

Universal's erotic drama "Fifty Shades of Grey" felt the love from audiences this past weekend, earning a whopping $239.7 million around the globe.  Generating an impressive $158 million in 58 international territories (and $81.7 million in North America), this is Universal's second biggest international opening weekend ever behind "Fast & Furious 6" at $160.3 million. Also impressive is the super cool "Kingsman: The Secret Service" from Fox that, in its second weekend internationally, took no prisoners with $23.1 million in 38 territories. This, combined with the $35.6 million it earned in its North American debut, gives "Kingsman" $58.7 million for the weekend and a worldwide total to-date of nearly $80 million.

The North American debut of "Fifty Shades of Grey" also far exceeded expectations. Universal's R-rated erotic drama had a much better than expected opening weekend with $85 million for the three-day (F-S-S) portion of President's weekend and a whopping $94 million for the four-day (Friday through Monday) time frame. Also impressive in its debut was Fox's well-reviewed R-rated action drama "Kingsman: The Secret Service" with $36.2 million estimated for the three-day weekend and $42 million for the four-day Presidents Day weekend time frame. In third place is Paramount's family-friendly hit "Spongebob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water," adding another $31.7 million for the three-day weekend and $40 million for the extended holiday weekend—crossing $100 million total after just 10 days in release.

In DVD and Blu-ray Disc sales, three newcomers top the chart for the second week in a row. Universal's horror action drama "Dracula Untold" sinks its teeth into a first place debut on the chart, followed by Keanu Reeves in the action-packed "John Wick" and the latest film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' romantic drama "The Best of Me," starring James Marsden and Michelle Monaghan, in third place.

In DVD and Blu-ray Disc rentals, Sony's WWII tank drama "Fury" starring Brad Pitt holds its ground in the top spot for the second consecutive week followed by action newcomer "John Wick."

The Movies on Demand chart gets a bit of R-rated Keanu Reeves action as his turn in Lionsgate's "John Wick" draws big interest from audiences.  Second place goes to Luke Evans in the horror action drama "Dracula Untold" that earned over $56 million in theaters after opening in October of last year. Third place belongs to the courtroom drama "The Judge" starring Robert Downey Jr.

On the digital movie purchases and rentals chart, Sony's "Fury" shot up to the number one position, now in its second week of release. Warner Bros.' "The Judge" debuted strong, landing at number two. Sony's "The Interview" continues its strong performance sitting at number nine, now in its fifth week of release digitally. Notably, Bill Murray's classic "Groundhog Day" re-entered the charts, most likely thanks to Groundhog Day falling on Feb. 2.

VH1's "Love and Hip Hop" followed by ABC Family's "Pretty Little Liars" top our cable TV engagement chart.

Meanwhile, unsurprisingly, "Super Bowl XLIX" on NBC leads the way on our broadcast TV engagement chart, followed by CBS' "Blue Bloods."

Finally, the top spot for social media and digital engagement for viewers of broadcast and cable telecasts also goes to NBC's "Super Bowl XLIX" followed by "2015 Australian Open Tennis" on ESPN2.
