Vanda Announces Listing of a New Fanapt® Patent in the FDA Orange Book

WASHINGTON, Jan. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Vanda) VNDA today announced that a Fanapt^® patent, number 8,586,610 ('610 patent), is now listed in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration publication Approved Drug Products With Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations, commonly known as the Orange Book.  As described in the Orange Book, this patent covers a method of treating schizophrenia by administering Fanapt^® to a patient by reducing the dose in patients who are poor metabolizers of CYP2D6.  The '610 patent was issued by the United States Patent and Trademark Office in November 2013 and expires in November 2027.  Prior to the '610 patent, the only patent previously listed in the Orange Book was the U.S. composition of matter patent for Fanapt^®, which is currently expected to expire in November 2016.
