OMA Reports a 14.1% Increase in December 2014 Passenger Traffic and a 10.6% Increase for the Full Year 2014

MONTERREY, Mexico, Jan. 6, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA OMAB OMA, reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 14.1% in December 2014, as compared to December 2013. Domestic traffic increased 13.6%, and international traffic increased 16.7%.

For the full year 2014, total passenger traffic reached a record 14.7 million, an increase of 10.6% over 2013. Domestic traffic rose 10.8% and international traffic rose 9.3%.

Of total December traffic, 97.9% was commercial aviation and 2.1% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in eleven airports in December. The most noteworthy increases were in Monterrey (+19.9%; +90,185 passengers), Tampico (+29.8%; +15,103), and Acapulco (+21.4%; +10,743).  Monterrey traffic increased principally on the Mexico City and Cancún routes. Tampico traffic increased on the Guadalajara, Villahermosa, and Monterrey routes. Acapulco traffic increased on the Mexico City route.

During December, Volaris opened the Acapulco – Monterrey, Monterrey – Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Monterrey – Acapulco, and Monterrey – Oaxaca routes.

International traffic increased in nine airports in December. Traffic increased most significantly in Monterrey (+24.4%; +21,591 passengers), principally as a result of increased traffic on the Houston route.

In December, Aeroméxico opened the Monterrey – New York route; Delta opened Mazatlán – Los Angeles, and Zihuatanejo – Los Angeles routes; and VivaAerobus opened the Monterrey – Las Vegas route.

The number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in December increased 9.3% as compared to the same month of 2013. The number of domestic operations increased 8.5% and international operations increased 13.6%.

For the full year 2014, the number of flight operations rose 5.1%. Domestic operations increased 5.3% and international operations increased 3.6%.
