OmniVision Provides Ring, Producer of the World's First Battery-Operated Wireless Video Doorbell, with HD Video Recording and Streaming Capabilities

When The RingTM Video Doorbell Detects Movement, OmniVision's Fast Boot-Up Firmware Instantly Begins Recording

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- OmniVision Technologies, Inc. OVTI, a leading developer of advanced digital imaging solutions, and Ring, producer of the world's first battery-operated, wireless, video doorbell, today announced from the 2015 International CES that OmniVision's low-power consumption OV9712 image sensor and OV788 video processor chip have been selected to bring high-definition ("HD") video recording and streaming capabilities to the new Ring Video Doorbell.

With the OV9712 and OV788, Ring can deliver "instant on" video recording and streaming over any Wi-Fi network. When the Ring Video Doorbell's motion sensors detect movement, OmniVision's fast boot-up firmware quickly wakes the doorbell from "sleep mode" to begin recording HD video. The OV788's ultra-low power consumption also helps extend Ring's battery life to up to 14 months.

With a strong focus on home security, monitoring and convenience, the Ring Video Doorbell can stream live HD video and two-way audio from a home's doorstep straight to the user's smartphone or tablet through a Wi-Fi network. With the first battery-operated HD video doorbell on the market, Ring offers cloud storage, easy installation, 720p HD wide-angle video capture, night-vision video recording, and powerful motion detection.

"Through OmniVision's three-year partnership with Ring, we've witnessed how Ring has taken bold steps to create the revolutionary device you see today," said Sam Huang, VP of design engineering at OmniVision. "We greatly value our relationship with Ring, and pride ourselves in being the 'eyes' for products that truly redefine their categories."

James Siminoff, inventor and CEO of Ring, added: "At Ring, we strive every day to give our customers the best doorbells the world has ever seen by providing an added layer of security to their homes. Our strategic partnership with OmniVision, a leader in advanced digital imaging, is key to achieving that goal and delivering the world's first battery-operated, Wi-Fi enabled, HD video doorbell."

The OV9712 CameraChip™ sensor, utilizing OmniVision's proprietary OmniPixel3-HS™ high sensitivity pixel technology, brings outstanding scene reproduction to the Ring Video Doorbell's camera in extreme lighting conditions, thus fulfilling a critical condition of reliable surveillance in security systems. OmniVision's ¼-inch OV9712 can capture 720p HD video at 30 frames per second.

The Ring Video Doorbell will be on display at booth #35829 in South Hall - 4 at the 2015 International CES in Las Vegas from January 6-9.
