How Can You Benefit From A Security Threat?

Recently the Department of Homeland Security told international travelers to be on high alert...as usual. There was a supposed threat to international travel, specifically to Europe. The threat level seems like it will always be elevated as we are always living with the fear of some sort of attack. While there are a finite number of ways to prevent such a threat, we always strive to ensure the safety of the country. Intelligence can only take us so far and that is where technology can help. If you have traveled lately, you may have noticed new security systems in place by the Transportation Security Administration at certain airports like Boston's Logan International and San Francisco International Airport. The new systems, called whole body imaging, can see through clothing to reveal metal objects, weapons, or explosives. The scanners are so advanced they can even see outlines of clothing; and yes, even underwear. While some may think it violates a person's privacy, the scanner blurs facial features, the systems do not store scanned images, and the security officer sits in a remote location so they are unable to identify passengers. Companies that manufacture security systems for our safety include OSI Systems OSIS and L-3 Comunications LLL. OSI Systems is a company that frequently does business with the U.S Government. According to a recent report, OSI has a security division named Rapiscan Systems that recently received a contract from the government for cargo and inspection systems. Rapiscan Systems also supplies x-ray and gamma ray imaging, and threat identification techniques such as neutron and diffraction analysis. L-3 Communications is also a major security and technology provider to the government and intelligence agencies. L-3 has a segment called C3ISR which provides products for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. L-3 also recently acquired 3Di Technologies, which is a secure satellite communications company. As different forms of threats to our security continuously evolve, there will be an increasing need for high end technology produced by companies such as OSIS and L-3. OSIS is trading 3% higher at $36.64 LLL is trading 1% higher at $70.65 You can read more about Airport Body Scans here
