US wholesale inventories rose 0.30 percent in January, versus economists' expectations for a 0.20 percent drop. Crude oil supplies gained 3.9 million barrels for the week ended March 4, 2016, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported. However, analysts were expecting a rise of 3 million barrels. Gasoline supplies slipped 4.5 million barrels, while distillate stockpiles dropped 1.1 million barrels last week.
