American Airlines Posts Record Profit, Misses Revenue Expectations

American Airlines Group Inc AAL saw record profits for two consecutive years as the airline industry began tofeel a squeeze after travel warnings were issued in the wake of the spreading Zika virus in the Americas.

American Airlines reported a record profit in the fourth quarter of 2015, following a record-setting profit in the previous year. The airline posted a $1.3 billion profit for the quarter.

The company reported EPS of $2.00, beating analysts' expectations of $1.97.

Revenue came in at $9.6 billion, below estimates of $9.63 billion.

The company bought back $1.1 billion in stock in the fourth quarter.

American Airlines stock was up 2 percent at market close on Friday trading at $38.99.
